Our Grade 7 and Grade 5 students have been engaging in collaborative art projects, showcasing the incredible results of teamwork and creativity.

Grade 7 Norval Morriseau

Students have been working on a collaborative mural project depicting the art of Norval Morrisseau. This work is connected to the generative topic “Form Conveys Meaning.” They used a grid technique to copy Morrisseau’s painting onto black paper using oil pastels. The result is a wonderful contrast with a velvety texture. Each student created their own panel and at the end of last week, we assembled the puzzle. The students worked collaboratively and in total silence. The result reveals Morriseau’s primary themes: nature, energy, spirituality, and transformation.

Grade 5 Har Sinai Mural

The artists worked on their first joint creation last week, a mural that encapsulated their experience of having ‘been’ at Har Sinai as a community.  The students worked collaboratively and engaged with mixing paint and creating texture on a flat surface.  They brought energy and enthusiasm into the art room, which can be seen through their expressive mural.

About This Column

The Heschel Gallery is a Heschel Hive column that appears at the end of every rotation throughout the year. It features students’ artwork with an explanation of the project by Morah Lisa for context. This is a wonderful way to appreciate the diversity and beauty of the students’ creations!
