“Through the Classroom Window” is an opportunity for teachers to share the inspiring learning that takes place in their classrooms, giving others a glimpse into the heartbeat of the school. Today, Grade 6 teachers explain the multi-step Build Project, which spans the year in science.

In this year-long project, students were tasked with creating a 3-D model representing a location with observable tectonic plate interactions, as well as water systems and interesting ecosystems/climates.

The project was created in 3 phases, each coming at the end of a unit.

In the first phase, students chosen a geographical location and represented its tectonic plate interactions and landforms.

In the second phase, after having studied water systems, students added to their 3-D model by including rivers and water systems found between their chosen location and a drainage basin.

Finally, students studied climates and ecosystems, adding even more to their models before finally finishing them this week!
