This week, the Grade 7 class had the wonderful opportunity to volunteer at UJA’s Community Marketplace for Ukrainian newcomers to Canada. The Marketplace was set up like a typical storefront at the Promenade Mall, and served as a vital resource for newcomers to shop for winter essentials and household goods at no cost. Our students served in a variety of capacities, from welcoming clients and helping them find what they need, to sorting clothing, to playing with small children attending the marketplace with their parents. The experience was not only enlightening, but also fulfilling for our students, who were able to see first hand what it takes to support those fleeing war and starting a new life in a new country. It was a privilege and an honour to be able to play a small part in this amazing initiative!
