“Through the Classroom Window” is an opportunity for teachers to share the inspiring learning that takes place in their classrooms, giving others a glimpse into the heartbeat of the school. Today, our Director of Elementary and Junior High, Edna Sharet, reveals our new Grade 8 Generative Topic.
This week in grade 8 Ivrit, students encountered the Generative Topic that will keep them busy over the coming months: דור חדש דורש שלום: דעות שונות יוצרות עם שלם (A New Generation Demands Peace: Differing Opinions Create a Whole Nation). The semester-long program emphasizes the importance of the ideal of pursuing peace – in Jewish sources and in the experiences of the State of Israel, both internally and externally.
We began the program with a brief recollection of Jewish sources that emphasize both the Jewish devotion to the Land of Israel alongside the ideal of Peace, and then studied how the Land of Israel passed from Imperial power to Imperial power over the centuries. Next week we will cover the beginning of Zionism and transition into the pivotal period of the British Mandate.
