The Heschel Gallery is a Heschel Hive column that appears at the end of every rotation throughout the year. It features students’ artwork with an explanation of the project by Morah Lisa for context. This is a wonderful way to appreciate the diversity and beauty of the students’ creations!

Grade 1 students have been studying the generative topic: Matter, Metamorphoses, and Miracles (ועל נסיך של בכל יום עמנו), about how miracles occur when we observe the many changes around us.

In the art room, they noticed that crayons turn from a solid to a liquid when heat is applied.

They also learned that when they dip a wick into molten wax and then immediately dip it into water, it turns back into a solid.

Before the break, students used these observations to create a single-wick candle for Chanukkah to display in their chanukkiyot, which they crafted from clay.

Then, our Grade 1 artists made twisted, double-wick candles for Havdalah. The candles will become a part of a special Havdalah kit made by each student!
