Every year in early November, our Toronto Heschel School puts on a Poetry Festival Of The Arts. Our Poetry Festival is the end of every grade’s poetry learning unit from preschool to grade eight.
On November eighth, during our school’s Poetry Festival, our entire school dressed up as a poet, rhyme, poetic device, or as a poet. Students from grade one to grade eight memorized a poem of their choice and presented it to their Junior High division-wide groups they had been assigned to. In addition to reciting a poem, each group moved through different rotations, playing poetry related games and activities.
This year, our Junior High was fortunate to welcome Ayla Lefkowitz, a poet from Toronto who read and taught us about spoken word poetry.
This year we had an amazing time at our Poetry Festival. We can’t wait for the next one!
