Q: Does the school offer before and after school care?
A: Yes. There is childcare available from 8:00 to 8:30 am, and from 3:45 to 6:00 pm at an extra cost.
Q: Are there after-school programmes?
A: Yes. We have a variety of programmes offered for students from SK to Grade 8, such as: sports, drama, computers, environmental activities, etc.
Q: What is the school's Kashrut policy?
A: The school abides by the laws of kashrut. All school functions must be strictly kosher.
Food brought to school or school-related events must be milk-based or parve and catered by or purchased from a business with a recognized kashrut agency supervision.
Lunches brought to school must be parve or dairy and should be kosher. In order that all children feel comfortable at all times, we respectfully request that parents be sensitive to dietary needs at private celebrations, e.g., birthday parties.
Q: Does the School have an allergy policy?
A: Yes The Toronto Heschel School has developed its own Allergy policy and as a part of this policy all foods which contain peanut or nut products or are made with peanut or nut products (e.g., peanut or nut oil) may NOT be brought onto school premises at any time. If the package has any warning on the label such as ‘may contain traces of nut/peanuts’ or ‘has been produced on equipment which comes in contact with nuts/peanuts’ or similar phrase, it cannot be consumed in the school or at school-related activities.
Q: Is The Toronto Heschel School affiliated with any of the synagogues?
A: No. The Toronto Heschel School is not affiliated with any synagogue or movement. Families of the school come from a wide range of affiliation and background.
Q: Are all teachers at The Toronto Heschel School certified?
A: Our teachers are either certified teachers who are graduates of a Canadian University or equivalent, or their credentials are evaluated and confirmed by the Centre for Enhancement of Jewish Education (Mercaz).
