Our first priority is your child’s intellectual growth and Heschel students surpass all markers for academic achievement. More importantly, the Heschel curriculum fosters critical thinking – lifelong skills that help children understand, not just memorize. The Toronto Heschel School has incorporated a “Teaching for Understanding” model that originated at the Harvard University Graduate School of Education. Our teachers apply this structure to design and implement a performance-based curriculum. To learn new material, students must be able to demonstrate that they have understood the information; are able to expand upon it; and apply it in novel ways. We use many tools to achieve understanding, particularly the arts, multiple intelligences and multi-sensory learning. Children are taught in small skill groups, which provide each student with a high level of personal attention.
In a controversy, the instant we feel anger, we have already ceased striving for truth and have begun striving for ourselves.
